This is a terrific book for both professionals (like Andre Mack, the book's author) and simple appreciators of wine alike. It's a wonderful book for folks that are not as knowledgeable, and those who want to explore both accessible and extraordinary wines depending on the occasion. Andre Mack makes wine fun, it's so much fun to drink a wine "alongside" him as you explore the book. Many of the choices were available in my local store, I was easily able to find several wines listed in this book. His attitude comes out clearly...have a good time with wine, don't worry that what you are drinking or if it is considered an important wine, just concern yourself with your own pleasure in enjoying it....and IMHO he elevates my enjoyment. It's a simple straight forward approach that is disarming as well as supremely charming.
I have enjoyed reading André's story through wine and also learning about his favorites and how they are special to him. Some are my favorites as well and it has been great to learn about their history. Overall wine in general can be intimidating, but I have bookmarked pages in this book as well as flagged some that I want to try and use this all the time. Grateful to have someone like André that is willing to share his experience and his obvious love for wine with us.
I’ve read several wine guides and books for all levels of wine lovers and this is by far the best. The author weaves in all the information about wine that you will need while also sharing an entertaining story of his life. I could not put the book down! The unique bottle recommendations are the icing on the cake as you walk away with not only great info on different wines to explore, but also specific bottles that you may want to try. Kudos to Andre Mack for an incredible book! I’m eager to try some of the wine he produces at Maison Noir!
Unconventional but very entertaining! Part memoir, part wine journey and always honest. Best wishes to Mack on his next adventure. He seems like a guy I would live to share a glass with and share stories.
