To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.
I had 5 items from Amazon show up today and every single one of them is going back. Although the king of the heap pile is the Esee 4 knife, this is a close 2nd.
I bought this because I needed a 'pen light' and I only buy rechargeable flashlights. I made the mistake of trying to save a couple bucks and not go with a 4sevens light like most of my other flashlights. As other reviewers have stated, the multi mode doesn't work. Streamlight should be ashamed of themselves. They have to know that these things don't work but instead of fixing the issue, they keep trying to pawn off this defective trash. Furthermore, in their effort to manufacture these things as cheaply as possible (while still charging north of $30), the lack of quality shows throughout the product. As mentioned, multi mode doesn't work, the on/off switch doesn't engage consistently, and possibly the worst blunder, they didn't thread the area that collapses around and protects the charging port.
1. Tail switch is excessively hard to depress 2. Inconsistent operation Coyote models for EDC (LOW then HIGH) First of all I have purchased three of these Coyote version lights (Supposed High first then Low when turned on) from different sellers including Amazon and the lights are inconsistent at best. For an EDC light I wanted HIGH first then LOW as it is supposed to work. I have two lights that come on LOW first then HIGH and I have one light that usually comes on HIGH then LOW as advertised but you really never know which mode is going to come on first. I tried calling SL customer service (800-523-7488 / 610-631-0600) and they were absolutely useless and claimed it was "strange" and they have never seen that problem before. The 250 lumens is a good amount of light from such a small light, I just wish it worked right.
Having a pen flashlight is SO handy to an auto technician but this thing will let you down every time you really need it. It becomes so infuriating when you finally get your body positioned just right under a dash and you reach for the pen flashlight and it wont turn on. The switch fails at least once a day and typically when I'm doing something crucial. No, it's not a battery issue. The switch will stop working right off a fresh charge. Other reviews say the same thing so it's a design problem. Also from a dead battery to full charge takes forever. Three hours, maybe more. If the switch wasnt junk I'd look past the charge time but wow, this thing sucks..
Don't be fooled. The description on the package says Momentary 'Blink' or Constant 'On' Switching.
The reason for the quotes is that to achieve constant on, you must constantly press the button. The button switch does NOT click.
This review is the for Red model. I ordered a black one and a red one. The switch on the black one was defective. After installing the battery, it would not turn off, the light was stuck on. I returned the black on for a replacement.
Update March 2021: The replacement broke. It failed to turn on.
So I am never one to believe an occasional bad review and I ignored a few that had this pegged. I was very excited about this light got it and looked great. Nice size and nice in pocket. Then try to turn it on and it was so hard to turn on I needed both hands. I am a big guy and relatively strong and I could not turn on one handed. Then I quickly noticed it was not working as it would flicker and randomly turn off and on. Amazon was great and quickly refunded! Prior to that however they asked me to call streamlight. The customer service person was not very helpful or friendly. It seemed as this is a known issue as she told me before I finished talking that I needed a new tail cap. I thought “ok great I will just get that and move on.” Not so easy.... rather than giving her my name and address she gave me instructions to go on there site complete a form write up instructions as this issue was not selectable...blah blah blah. Now this May be silly but I am literally talking to customer service, take 10 more seconds and send me then dang switch. Why should the person that bought your defective product need to do your job. Very unhappy and not likely to buy a streamlight again if that is the customer service you get.
Shortly after receiving this Streamlight, the light began flickering and would sometimes fail completely. The charging port was also loose, so it would only charge if I taped the charging cord to the flashlight while it was in it's sweet spot. I sent it back to Streamlight for service or replacement, since it was under warranty. They had it for a month and shipped it back without fixing it or replacing it. So this light is now going in the trash and I'll be buying a new one from a manufacturer who will stand behind their product and honor their warranty.
I was very happy with the flashlight for the first month I had it. Then the light began to take longer to recharge and a charge lasts less and less amounts of time. Three month in, the torch barely lasts 30 minutes running time. I have a similar flashlight that runs on 2-AA batteries; it out performs this flashlight several times over. I would not reccomend this item.
The button stopped working after the first few minutes of operation. It worked fine at first, but then the click stopped working to activate a constant light. It would only turn on for as long as the button was being depressed, click or no click. I was hoping this was just a battery saving feature and it needed a charge, but even after a full charge the button is still broken. It’s a nice looking little light, but I guess I need to spend more on a more significant light.
I've carried a protac 1L-1aa for over a year, love that light, so I wanted to try this one out. Its terrible, the button is terrible, it wouldnt switch brightness except whenever it felt like it, I'd worry about water getting past the sleave that hides the charging port, and it just didnt put out much light. Try the protac 1L-1AA, its amazing
6 years ago, I knew Stream light had an issue with their switches. Apparently, they still haven't addressed it. Started having issues within 12 hours. Light beam pulses stronger and weaker, randomly shuts off, sometimes the light will only work while pressing the switch. Very disappointing, because otherwise, this is an awesome little light.
