To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.
It is what was advertised. Read the other reviews and customer photos and you should be well equipped to make the purchase. It was delivered in a plastic satchel and the “cover” was in a box ,that as expected gets flattened. It lasted the delivery but came very close to being scratched up with the loose screwdriver rubbing up against it. Would have preferred it not to be included if the screwdriver wasn’t packed well enough to avoid damage against the other during delivery.
The unit comes with the display and controller assembled. You only need to attach the Pi4 to the stand offs, and connect one ribbon cable and 4 other leads. All went smoothly until it was clear that the power, HDMI, and audio ports do not line up with the holes in the case. This prevents secure seating of the cables. No amount of fiddling with the mounting screws allowed better alignment. Then it turns out that the display is mounted upside down in the case. This creates two other problems - needs a config file modification to turn the display and touch coordinates upside down - also means the viewing angle from above is compromised. (The latter seems to be a common problem with cases for the display.). I would not buy this again, but rather look for a better enclosure.
Everything went together easily, and fit perfectly. Even my diy hat fit inside. **Update- the micro hdmi plugs are too far in to be usable as is, the opening isn't large enough to accommodate the cables. You must drill the openings in the case larger in order to plug in the cables properly. They lost a star for that.
Wish I could give zero stars. This item arrived today with much disappointment because the LCD screen isn’t included. Be careful when ordering this item the description is very inaccurate and doesn’t say the screen is sold separately. I’m returning it ASAP!
The good: -Symmetrical Recesses act as "Handgrip" areas if you want this to be a portable handheld object -Can stand on it's own with the pi/display installed -There is just enough room to plug the display headers -The backplate comes off easily but doesn't seem like it would fall off on it's own -If you remove the back cover there are two screw notches which would allow you to mount the unit on a wall/etc
The good/bad depending on your application: -SD Card is not removable with the case on.. you either will like this or hate it. I can understand it would be a little challenging to design a case where the sd card is removable with a case like this because the ribbon cable for the display is directly atop the sd card slot -There is just enough room for the female jumper wires supplied with the official raspberry pi display.. that is also enough room to potentially add a pi hat/custom pcb. If you want the thinnest solution possible, this isn't it but don't discredit it just for this because the added thickness is helpful to keep the display steady when sat on it's own
The reason I took a star off: There are vent holes on the top of the unit and a smaller logo/hole on the back. I would like to have seen a design with more holes. Aside from this I am quite happy with the case. It is easy enough to drill more holes as needed anyhow. Perhaps they could offer the kit with two different backplates.
Other comments: The display by default shows as upsidedown. You can change this by editing /boot/config.txt and adding the following: lcd_rotate=2
