Simple to install and set up. Congrats to the developers. App is user friendly and has a step by step guide on how to set up the camera.
UPDATED 12/05 - Tested the camera now for a few weeks. Device DOES NOT detect motion of any object moving 5-6 metres away from the camera. Wifi signal is over 70%, sensitivity set to maximum 10. Contacted customer service, no reply whatsoever. As mentioned above, camera is easy to install, however pointless in my case, as 5-6 metres coverage is poor. On the camera description it states it cover 65 feet. Well, that is not true in my case. Not worth the investment if you need fast detection. This camera sometimes will not even detect motion at all. Customer service not helpful at all.
I'm not feeling the same love that everyone has for this thing. I have several Ring cameras and I wanted to try something outside of their eco system. My main annoyance with my ring cameras is that the maximum recording length is 2 mins. It seems I made a false assumption that I would have more choice in event recording length. Trying to adjust the settings to my liking is not an easy task. There are different pages of settings in the app but the translations from Chinese are very poor. There is not sufficient information in the app or in the instruction book to fully understand the purpose of each setting. To really figure out all the settings you pretty much have to spend a couple days with trial and error. Both the manual and app use very crude English without enough description. The app in general feels really clunky in use and function. Unlike my Ring cameras I'm unable to set a mask for the area I want motion triggers for. There appears to be no way to mask off the street so that I don't get triggers for cars driving by. The result of this is unnecessary notifications and unnecessary motion being recorded which is putting a real strain on the battery life on bright sunny days. I imagine on winter days it won't make it. My only solution would be to aim the entire camera straight down at the ground. The manual says not to do this because it will lead to poor motion detection. Despite the unit saying my wifi signal at the installed location is good I have issues with recordings not starting right when motion is sensed. At times I will only catch the end of a motion sequence such as someone walking up to my door. Even though it says my wireless signal is good half the time when I connect with the app it fails to connect and I have to retry or takes a very long time. My ring spotlight right next to this one doesn't have that problem. Considering the stellar reviews on this camera I expected more. Maybe if I never used a better device and I had a strict budget of $99 I would be head over heals for this. The image quality is pretty good, better than my ring spotlight. I want to like the device but the lack of some key features and poorly documented mystery settings make it hard. I'll give it another day or two before I decide but I feel pretty sure this is going back and a third Ring camera is going in its place.
I liked the camera at first it was catching people walking by the house and up to it but recently I noticed it's not capturing any images of folks walking on the property. Didn't catch the ups guys or the 2 creepy farm hands that just walked up to my house or any of the times I brought gear in and out of the house to the vehicle. At first i thought this was a great product the concept is great but reality is something else. I really wanted these cameras to work but it seems like the only way to do that is to put them at eye level which would be a great way to get the cameras stolen. I dont really get why it's not working at the roof line it seems like a rather logical location to put a security camera. I feel like I shouldn't have to relocate the camera...this is just been a really disappointing experience so far I just dont get the point of how it captures me taking the dog outside but doesn't get anyone carrying bags in and out of the house. I was going to buy 5 more cameras but since they don't work I probably won't. The camera is only 12 feet off the ground maybe less maybe I'm doing something wrong but thus experience has been frustrating I can't even identify the weird folks that came onto my property...there's no pictures 😕
Bought one in fall 2020 and was impressed for what it was... bought another 2021 Jan and tested til 2021 June and not impressed. They did some bug updates which seems to make the app progressively slower and worse.
Motion detection is not reliable- it sometimes alerts and sometimes it doesn't. This is tested with the same distance, person, different distances, lighting, you name it. I've noticed what gets missed and caught on camera.
Footage- actual footage is alright.. if you have average to great weather lighting. Anything below, it's like rewatching YouTube videos from early 2000s in 2021. Worse than what was 480p. If you're lucky to be able to view any footage on the app. It's a 30% shot of opening the alert or live footage to see what's going on, and it'll be 5 or more minutes, after the events' pass. Also, if you're viewing live footage for longer than 1-2mins, it'll freeze and you'll have to reconnect...another 5mins.
I tried contacting customer service x3 on different platforms to at least pass feedback along- knowing full well it'd be a long shot of anything beyond that. All attempts are dead ended- hoping for any kind of reply besides the initial "Hi, how can I help you".
I was enjoying this camera and even recomending it to neighbors. But now the solar panel has failed the camera no longer recognizes the solar panel and stays on battery. Tried the trouble shooting procedures and verfied the camera is working and charges on usb but does not recognize the solar panel. Have other solar powered devices in the same area working just fine with solar power. Even tried finding a replacement panel for the camera no luck. So unfortunately I cannot recomend this setup.
We ordered 8 of this thinking to install on every corners of our house(outdoor). It looks like the pic/live stream is ok but when I stepped out 10 feet away from our router the cameras won’t work/connect. We returned them all.
Motion detection rarely works. Person, item, etc. must be approx 3ft from camera in order for it to pick-up motion detection, which defeats the purpose since then someone can block or disable it. When it does sense motion it's after the target has left the field of view and I end up with an alert and snap shot of my empty driveway. At night you don't see the car or object, but do see the glow of the tail lights after the car is full in the driveway. DO NOT RECOMMEND, WASTE OF MONEY
UPDATE: 8/18/2020 - their customer service reached out to me, which I thought was a very good sign. They made recommendations to improve the functionality of the camera. They recommended checking ensuring the WiFi strength was stronger then 80% and that the camera was tilted at no more then 45 degrees. I ensured both of these were completed, but still the camera does not detect motion more then 3-4 ft away. I even sent 2 videos to customer service. Here is a portion of their response: 1. "The camera should be installed with an angle of 15 degrees toward the ground(not 45 degrees as I mentioned in the previous email)" In order for the camera to have only a 15 degree angle towards the ground, you would need to mount it very low and a person could potentially damage or remove the item. 2. "Yes, your WiFi signal intensity is strong but maybe not fast enough, if the connection is not fast enough, it will cause delay or even no detections." We have 300mps which isn't lightening speed, but is fast enough for continuous gaming/streaming with no issues, so again it seems the camera is not the best design. 3. "Update the upcoming new firmware, the new firmware will be released at the end of August. Please stay tuned for the new firmware. The new firmware shortens the time of response which will help the problem of delay." It's anyone's guess if this will or won't solve the problem, assuming there even is a firmware update.
We bought 2 of these cameras and just installed them in our front yard. There is about a 10 second delay before the motion detection triggers the recording, plenty of time for someone to walk past them. They are also only triggering at about 10 feet or less, not 65 feet. We have a clear view of our yard, but they’re pretty worthless since they don’t pick up activity as advertised. Very disappointed in this product. They both completely missed a delivery in the middle of the day. We do not recommend unless you just want a live feed camera to look at.
