Everything about this camera is good except for the motion sensor. If you are relying on this camera to ID a potential thief then you will only get the back of their head or part of the automobile they rolled up in. THis does not start to record until after the thief is just out of camera. And the audio is not synced up properly. I would like my money back. Not worth the 115 i paid.
I certainly like the idea of this camera! My unit would not take a charge from the solar panel even in direct east facing sun. It did take a charge from a wall outlet, but the battery (fully charged when done this way) does not last more than a week to 10 days, but was advertised as lasting something extreme like 365 days. That would be cool! But it’s not what I expected because I had planned on utilizing the solar panel as a continuous power source! Picture quality: good enough! Night vision: clearer than I had imagined Solar panel: maybe dysfunctional unit Battery: fair or ok- but not as advertised. I did not like that it requires your phone location to be ON, or that you need to be on the same WiFi network as the camera but am uncertain if beyond initial setup that would remain the case since my unit was defective and therefore not tested for long. Motion detection: I would like even the more sensitive setting to include the whole 130 degree view, as soon as something comes into any of the 130 degree view. Memory: You can use an SD card or their cloud, but I was not impressed with the plans/pricing for the cloud option.
I really tried to like this thing. Pros: Handy. Connect to the internet (home router) and check it from any where using mobile data. Easy to set up. Picture O.K. unless you try to enlarge. Enlarging makes a picture useless real fast. Your pretty much stuck with what you get on your gigantic phone screen. Cons: Internet connection is horrible. I moved this thing seven ways from Sunday from the router trying to improve connection strength. At 15 feet and a wall sits around 80-85%. At 30 feet and 1 wall can't get more that 61-63%. Drops a lot. This will NOT connect if you use a range booster. Maybe because I am using a older netgear N600 WN2500v2 series. Worst of all is the motion detection. For the unit I got it is plain flat useless unless I can sick it 8 feet from where I want it to activate it's worthless. Set it beside the router and 8 foot, sometimes 10 foot is THE limit. This is the killer for me. Returned it.
**Update at end** as of June 4th Great camera at first, but after a few months the card reader stopped reading and would indicate "No SD card" and not record. The motion detection was lagging and picked up motion after the person was almost all the way up the driveway. The quality and night vision is really good, but what good is a camera if you cannot record anything and only see Live views? I tried re formatting, replacing the SD card, resetting...nothing helped. It would work for a few hours and then show that there was no SD card in the slot. I contacted Customer Service (ieGeek Service) and they were responsive (very hard to understand with directions in broken English) with trying to trouble shoot (formatting the SD card). After multiple failed attempts, the last email I received told me the Manager has agreed to replace the product if I would send half of the money!!! He wanted my product review and money! I cannot tell you how disappointed I am in dealing with a company like this that states they have a 1 year warranty for products that are faulty. I should not have to pay a dime for something that should be covered. I really liked the camera, but not worth the money I paid for a product that worked for 5 months. *****UPDATE***** The company did reach out to me after my review and sent me a new replacement free of charge. I am glad they honored their warranty.
Bought two of these for my yard. Knowing that I have no Wifi outdoors, I bought an outdoor AP and set that up first. Once installed, the cameras work reasonably well. I have them both mounted on a fence about 75' from the house and have 88-95% wi-fi signals to them. Upon mounting the second camera, I found the bracket would not tighten and hold the camera in place. It turned out the sintered aluminum ridge was broken so the ball would not tighten enough to lock. Had to fashion a piece of metal and make a temporary bracket. The cameras worked okay for a couple of days until one evening I found I was unable to log into CloudEdge. That was the 22nd of November. For three hours, we could not log in. And that's when we discovered these cameras are dependent on servers in New Zealand in order for the app to log in. The second big problem we discovered today: our internet went out for a few hours. During that time, we were unable to view any of our cameras that use Cloudedge, nor our doorbell cameras. Nothing was accessible. Apparently there is no failsafe for when the internet goes off line. This is a very serious shortcoming for a SECURITY camera, which should have 100% availability, 24/7/365 with no exceptions. As a result, I cannot recommend this camera or any camera that relies on the internet to function.
UPDATE: On Christmas Day, these two cameras went "offline". We rebooted the entire network and still they would not come online. Two days later, inexplicably, they came back online. Then again today, Dec 30th, around 4:30 PM, both went offline again. These cameras are not reliable. I have decided to return them and get a hard wired system instead.
This was my first experience with wireless security so I went in with a nuetral mindset. I was originally blown away with how clear the video quality was both during the day and at night. This camera even allows you to zoom in which is a nice feature. I decided to go with this particular model due to the solar panel which works well and eliminates the need to worry about battery drain like other cameras.
Now I'll explain why I decided to return the camera. The camera has a five second delay which doesn't sound sound like much but when you have it setup to watch an entrance of your home like I did, it makes the camera useless. The camera would start recording late everytime and by the time it would begin, the person was already out of camera view if they were walking fast. I tested it myself several times while exiting my home and while approaching my home and it always caught the back of my head or nothing at all.
If the manufacturer fixes the delay issue this camera would be amazing. Hope they make they hardware changes that will increase response time in the future. Then I would seriously consider buying it and keeping it.
About 33 days after I bought it it stopped working ( warranty from Amazon is 30 days). I tried a few things and nothing worked. Called Amazon who explained it was out of warranty with them and I needed to file the problem with the mfg., there in China. I emailed the mfg., 2 days later at 2 am I got an email back asking me to check 20 different things ( it worked fine for a month). This exchange went on for 3 different times with never resolving the problem. I went out and pressed the reset button on the camera ( they never told me to do that). Camera worked for a week, now it wont record anyone or anything it sees by the motion sensor. Again I email China and there no help. Finally Amazon stepped in and covered it under the extended warranty, its going back.
This is my second battery , WIFI camera from these folks. the first one sees the front door , This one is at my shop and sees the overhead door and driveway( I live in a rural area). I like the solar panel and would suggest that . The PIR/motion sensor could be a little more adjustable ( just high/low). But for the price works good. I found the camera and Cloud is easy to set up. Customer service seems responsive and willing to help and that ,in my opinion, is VERY important.
Update 12/2020 It doesn't like being exposed, not under an eve or roof. directly in the elements We have cold rainy weather and some snow. There is no Wi-Fi signal during this time. Temperature down to about 15 degrees at night and 40 or so during the day.. I have a 2nd camera from igeek different model under roof ,front porch, been working ok for about 1 year now. I think location is everything with these cameras. Changed my review to 2 stars from 5
This camera was easy to install and the solar panel keeps the battery at 100%. The picture is ok. But that’s where the pros end. Cons are numerous. The app is primitive and practically featureless. The camera has a good angle but does not pan, like many better ones. No settings to adjust storage or sensitivity, even though user manual refers to those. No remote adjustment of the viewing angle. You cannot change the wifi network in the app. You have to take the camera down and reset from scratch. No response from the manufacturer on my cloud setup questions. But worst if all it randomly sends alerts with significant delay, which defeats the whole purpose. I am sending it back.
Bought two. One of them is not charging with the solar. The battery ran down to 1% in a week. The other keeps charge at 100% at a more shady location.
I dont like the motion detection at all. It is specifically designed to recognize people only. So a car pulling in is not captured at all. Animals at night - no. Moving branch by the wind all day and night - yes. And it cuts off the action in 30 sec even if the person is still in the picture and moving. The app is a bit quirky with scanty options. Maybe I am expecting too much, and this is specifically meant to be mounted by a door to capture people coming in and going out and cannot be useful in any broader context. They should have said so.
