The Nantucket Candle Maker Mystery series by Christin Brecher is such a fun read !! The main character, Stella Wright, is a candle maker and has such a strong sense of smell that it helps her when she gets into tough places.
15 Minutes of Flame, the third book in this series, really tests Stella when she gets permission to use a friend's empty house to use as a haunted house for the Girl Scouts to raise money and in a boarded up shack in the back she finds a skeleton hidden in the wall...... oh the smells that are there !!
When Stella goes to research the skeleton she finds out that one of the ladies that is in her candle making class, Agnes, is a distant relative to the skeleton, Patience Cooper. After further digging they find out that Patience was murdered and her best friend Nancy committed suicide after some cash went missing and Patience and her husband disappeared. Nancy committed suicide by jumping down into a well that her family has left alone and consider it her burial site. In order to solve Patience's murder and be sure that Nancy did indeed jump down into the well, local police, Andy, invites 2 forensic anthropologists to come to Nantucket to go down the well. And the owner of the property where the well is located calls in a filmmaker who specializes in this kind of story......
Stella will do anything to solve a murder.....even move into the abandoned house where the first skeleton was found. Even though she is a candle maker and has to put that first and foremost, she cannot help but want to make her town as safe as possible.
Readers will love this unique way that Stella is able to use her craft for more than making tantalizing smelling candles....and her town and friends don't hurt the appeal !!! I highly recommend getting lost in this series and maybe light your favorite candle while you get lost in Nantucket with Stella......
This is a wonderful series that is one of my top five favorite cozy mystery series. Congratulations to the author on this #3 in the fabulous Nantucket Candle Maker Mystery by cozy author Christin Brecher. Thank you to the publisher and to Net Galley. My review opinion is my own. This is a wonderful Halloween theme next in series.
This series is set around a charming candle shop and candle maker on the island of Nantucket. Stella is a smart savvy protagonist who has a talent for solving crimes and running her very successful business. She makes candles and scents for different themes and holiday events. Her unique sense of smell gives her the opportunity to create scents that everyone loves.
This Halloween she has been asked to provide candles for her friends Halloween theme party in her spooky historic house she has just purchased. This is a Girl Scout fund raiser that is near and dear to Stella's heart. Stella is thrilled to learn a candle shop is on the property left abandon for many years. As she explores the old shop she finds a body of a women who appears to be Quaker. The body dates back to the 18th century after forensics are called in. Stella is fascinated to try to solve the mystery of who this women was and why she was murdered and her body left in a wall. The murder investigation proves to be multi layered and soon Stella is finding she is close to solving the case.
I loved this next in series. The charcters are well drawn to the setting and all likable. Stella is a great protagnist and very talented candle maker. The island of Nantucket is the perfect setting for this fun cozy series. Well done to the author. Review cross posted.
I enjoyed the main character, Stella. I also enjoyed the many side characters. Even though I have not read the first two books the author did a good job of helping me to understand the history and dynamics between the various characters. The past mystery and the current mystery were not ones I guessed immediately. She did a good job of throwing in some red herrings to keep the reader guessing. The romantic moments were good too. The recipe at the end was a nice touch too. Would love to see even more in future books. I loved the Halloween theme. It really added some spookiness to the story. I will definitely be reading more books by this author in the future.
I couldn't stop reading this book. I absolutely loved the imagery and setting. This is a well written cozy mystery even if it doesn't follow the usual "format" (whatever that is, who cares, reading is supposed to be fun). Reading is the only escape I have these days from what is going on in the world and I was definitely happy reading this book. I didn't want it to end! I hope more are coming. I love the series.
Very much enjoyed the story. Well thought out and enjoyable. The solution of the mystery did surprise me, but was well done. Very much enjoyed the Ichabod cat character and the conclusion of that part of the story.
