This item was purchased to accompany my Arlo Ultra 2 4K security cameras.
Over the first few days this product was able to keep my cameras topped off during day light hours. This included days where it rained or had overcast.
After about the 3rd day I noticed the cameras were no longer charging even though they were set to the lowest settings for battery longevity purposes. In order to get some sort of charge, I was required to turn off my security cameras which had dropped to around 70% battery life. It took approximately two days for the cameras to charge while being powered off.
Pros: When the panels worked, they worked great and kept my cameras fully charged.
The installation was easy, and the mounting brackets were made of metal/felt sturdy.
The cable provided was extremely long, allowing for the panel to be mounted almost anywhere.
The magnet was excellent and stayed secured to the camera without issues.
Cons: The mounting bracket (near screw threads) was difficult to use/attach items to, often having to screw/unscrew/re-screw several times. The threads felt rough and may need to be sanded/cleaned prior to use.
When attaching the panel to the bracket there was some difficulty getting it setup properly. When screwing the brackets together it would have some "play" in it causing the panel to fall forward. In order to prevent this the user would need to ensure there is no "play" when connecting the bracket, making sure it is extremely tight.
Product worked extremely well for the first few days but ultimately required the camera to be turned off in order to actually charge it fully.
Overall this product is decent and will save the user money compared to buying (1) Arlo solar panel for the price of (3) of these. However, this would only serve users well if the panels continue to work past the first week. Additionally, these might be best for users with little to no traffic at their residence, ensuring the cameras are not constantly being activated/used which drains battery life.
Honestly, I didn't expect much from this. I expected it to reduce the amount of times I have to pull out my ladder, but nothing more. Just slow down the power drain from the battery. Surprisingly, it is actually increasing the charge of the batteries. A few things to point out:
1. If your cameras have been out in the elements for a while, the electrical contacts will have oxidation and dirt. Clean them first with a little alcohol. They were not charging until I did this. 2. This goes without saying, but you need sunlight for this to work. The more light, the better it will charge. If you install this in the shade or under tree cover, your mileage may vary. This is not the fault of the solar charger. 3. This is not designed to, and will not provide continuous power. If you have the cameras constantly recording, frequently getting triggered, or if you are monitoring constantly, you will still have power drain. This is designed for the typical homeowner that occasionally has the delivery man dropping off packages and triggering the cameras, not for someone who needs round the clock security monitoring.
As long as you can meet the above and have reasonable expectations, this will work for you. I will be buying more to charge the rest of my cameras.
For the price of one Arlo solar panel you get three of these. So far, 2021, They are working perfectly. I purchased one Arlo and one (3 pack) of these solar panels to compare. I installed all of them when the camera batteries were at 25% to 30% and within 2 days all of the camera batteries charged to 100%. Since installation none of the batteries drop below 100%; even if the camera activates dozens of times during the night. No issues. Also, these solar panels have a slightly longer power cord, at 11.5 feet, then the Arlo solar panel at 8 feet.
Panels work great, I have had 3 of them for the last 6 months and battery level for cameras are always at 100% or close to it, if there are few cloudy days they may drop a bit but never below 90%. I never had to charge the cameras manually since I installed these panels. Even in cold temperatures of our winter in Northeast they held up great. Installation was easy, I am happy overall and recommend it.
Frame around solar is aluminum-white. Looks white in photo. BUT...these charge and keep arlo pro 3 camera charged very well. If you hook up to a dead camera they will take forever to charge I recommend hooking up to a fully charged camera and it will do its job well.
Other reviews mentioned that the solar panels only hold the initial charge but did not charge the batteries. In my case, I started with a battery charged only to 70% and it went up to the 100% with no problems. It maintained the charge at 100% during the whole day. So far, so good....
Great product works great keeping batteries charged even in cold and partial sunlight days. Been using for about 2 months have not needed to remove batteries to charge them even when down to almost 0%. I'm using these for arlo pro 3 cameras.
