Let me say to all buyers. It works for all Learn, 9pin, and 12pin garage door and community security gate.
I replaced my garage door opener to a Chamberlain B970 (yellow learn button). My old garage door remote also had 9pin switches to activate the community security gate.
Programming is very easy. Here is what I did.
For the garage door opener: 1) Make sure garage door is in the closed position 2) Press the program button in the remote under the battery cover (LED light on remote will stay on) 3) Press the Learn button on your garage opener hub (main unit) 4) Press the designated button on your remote that you want to assign and click slowly until your garage opener lights flash. Should be the exact number of clicks mentioned in the manual 5) Press the program button in the remote under the battery cover to exit the program mode (LED light on remote will turn off)
For the community security gate (either 9pin or 12pin): 1) Match the exact sequence as the old remote dip switches (if your old remote only had 9pins, make sure pin 10, 11, 12 on your new remote are in the off position) 2) Press the program button in the remote under the battery cover (LED light on remote will stay on) 3) Press the designated button on your remote that you want to assign and click slowly until your community security gate opens. Should be the exact number of clicks mentioned in the manual 4) Press the program button in the remote under the battery cover to exit the program mode (LED light on remote will turn off)
The only complaint I have is the clip. The clip does not lock into place very well. Both were very loose and almost useless. Luckily I didn't need them. If you want to clip the remote to your sunvisor, it will be loose and possibly fall off. Krazy glue should fix the problem.
If you own a Craftsman with an orange smart button, I strongly recommend you not purchase this model. After finally successfully programing this keypad, all my other devices, including both vehicles, were deprogrammed. When I reprogrammed my other devices, this device became deprogrammed. Additionally, the instructions are missing a step in the programming, which can only be figured out if one reads the "change an existing PIN code" section.
After too long, figured it out. What they don't tell you is that the programming of the remote is separate from the programming to the opener. For example, if you have a Chamberlain with the Yellow program button, you first need to program the button on the remote to act like a chamberlain remote. To do this, you would: 1) Hold the program button on the remote until the LED is solid, This button is under the cover. 2) Press one of the opener buttons marked (I) or (II) (8) times for the yellow button, the number of presses depends on your opener, there is a list in the instructions based on your opener. 3) Press the program button for the LED to turn off.
Now, the button, (I) or (II), which ever you pressed matches your openers remote. - It is not paired to you opener yet.
Next, from the opener, select the yellow button. This sets the opener in pairing mode. Now, select the button (I) or (II) that you just programmed on the remote. The opener will flash indicating it is programmed.
So far, seems to be a good remote, has much better distance than the remote provided with the opener.
Nicest thing with the remote is the ability to control the Garage door (Chamberlain) and the community gate, that uses 10 dip switches. If you are using the dip switches and you have is set but it doesn't work, reverse the position of the switches. So, if on your remote that came with the gate has is set to position 1 is down, 2 is up, etc.... you may need to configure this remote so that position 1 is up, 2 is down, etc...
I purchased this opener to use as an extra opener for a Wayne Dalton Quantum 3213 opener system.
I tried about 10 times total to pair this remote to the opener system. I followed the directions provided and also followed the directions in the video someone linked to this item. Unfortunately it does not seem that this item is compatible with this specific system…so that’s the bad news.
On the positive side, it seems that this remote is very well made and seemed to be operational…just not compatible. The customer service, as well, is first rate! After my own attempts to pair the device I reached out to them for assistance. They were both very prompt and courteous in providing support. In the end we determined that the remote was just not compatible. The company then provided a problem-free refund.
If you are sure that this remote is compatible with your opener system, it’s definitely a nice compact remote and worthy of your consideration.
On the other hand, if you are looking for a remote for the Quantum 3212 or 3213 I would recommend another remote on Amazon at about the same price point… one designed specifically made for Wayne Dalton systems.
Hard to program if you don't have new garage door. Will program easy enough, but will not hold the memory. Yes, I even exited the programming mode as instructed! Tried contacting tech support several times before returning and never received any response at all, so not sure where others are finding this amazing tech help they speak of? Im guessing it's just luck of the draw whether you receive a defective or programmable product, it's not rocket science! The fake reviews want to make you believe it was just you, trust me it's not! I had to return for different model that I purchased locally and programmed effortlessly for same price! Not worth the hassle and frustrations. Thankfully Amazon has a pretty seemless return process!
This product works with the Chamberlian garage door opener which I installed 3 years ago. But, the instruction should add a line to refer to the Chamberlian manual of how to program a new wireless controller, such as to activate the synch process, user shall push the "learn bottom" twice (not just once said by this vendor). A small issue associated with product is the quality of the screws. Their heads are easily be stripped. I have to use a replacement screw.
I like the size and ability to connect with a number of different brand systems. However, the install instructions did not work as detailed in the accompanying documentation. So, I had to play around some in order to get the item to connect. Essentially I had to zero out my system, program the keypad, and then reprogram clickers. A touch onerous but worked eventually. Not a reason to not purchase the product. It works fine now that it is connected. Not for a person with low to no tech skills.
This was a bit of a pain to get programmed but once we did it worked really well. The signal is very strong and opens the door before we even hit the driveway. Stronger than the stock remote that came with the door. We are really happy with it!
I liked the price for the two remotes but was so complex to program them with our two garage door openers as we still couldn't get both garage doors programmed as only one garage door works with the remote. I want to clarify as one of our garage door opener is an older version 1995-1999 and that is the opener we couldn't get to program. but it is ok as we still can use the other door opener as we have two different garage door openers.
