To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.
I enjoyed reading through this book for the author’s perspective on emigrating from China and his experience with a large cultural shift. The recipe’s themselves are generally good and I’ve made several great dishes (various dumplings, oils, sauces, noodle, and meats).
More critically, I think the author focused more on his business successes rather than the beauty of cooking and teaching others. Some of the recipes seem not to have been reviewed and have clear errors in measurement or the final quantity of something produced.
I bought this because there seemed to be a lot of hype recently about this cookbook but felt it didn’t live up to my expectations. Still glad to have it as a reference though.
