Black and decker cooler is fairly flimsy in way of the plastic grid and water box . 3 cooling options . No 1 is quiet 2 is medium and 3 is powerful. Unfortunately no 1 option is still very loud and this option is for sleeping but sadly is two high sound for sleeping . The water cooler is less affective even when putting ice pack as provided within box as the water goes warm very quickly so this prevents this option to work . Would be ideally for a short period of time but if you wanted a better product I would suggest spending a bit mire money but this black and decker cooler is mid range with one day delivery and you can test your self to see if it’s right for you. But my opinion blank and decker need to improve this cooler to get it spot on .
I bought this hoping it would help during the hot weather for my desk working from home. I don't think they could have put together a more shoddy piece of kit.
There are 3 fan speeds. The lowest one is quiet but you can't even feel the air being blown with your hand right next to it, so that's no use at all. Speeds 2 and 3 are so loud I can hear it through my noise cancelling headphones with music on. If you were using this for in the night and trying to sleep you'd have no chance!
You fill a water tank which connects on the side and it empties into a reservoir underneath the filter. The ice pack sits underneath the filter, which is only accessible if you have a screwdriver to remove a screw. Here's where the biggest design flaw is - the filter sits in the water reservoir so will obviously be wet. If the ice pack needs replacing (you do get 2 to be fair so one can be freezing while not in use), you need to remove the filter which gets water everywhere! Luckily the first time I did this was on the kitchen side, but had I done this on my desk this would have risked getting water on electrical items. I've tried a number of ways to replace the ice filter and none of them were a dry experience!
Once you've added the water, put it in a place you intend for it to stay as it's very hard to move without spilling the water. There's no way of emptying the reservoir under the filter either so you'll need to keep the fan on until the water is all used before it's transportable.
And the cherry on the top of all this - it doesn't actually blow out any air that's cooler than room temperature! I've tried it with ice cold water, plus a fresh ice pack and it just seems to be a very poor little desk fan. How this got through testing and quality control I'll never know!
When browsing for an air cooler there were a lot of unknown brands and I thought I'd opt for the Black + Decker name with some assurance of quality. I should have read the reviews which many have the same experience as me. Avoid this piece of kit which has a horrendous design and doesn't actually do what it says!
Well, unfortunately I didn't test this within the 1 month of the statutory return period. Firstly to make it work it is quite the fit: you need to take the water tank out, unscrew open a second lid, replace the inside bottle of water with a frozen one out of your fridge. Then screw the second lid, place the inside bottle to the fridge (you will need it next time), fill the outside tank with water and you are almost ready to go. As per the instructions, take a towel/something that can capture spillage, put the device on top of it and plug into power. After all this you get....as much as 1/20th of the cooling effect compared to a traditional fan....for 2 hours, then you have to repeat the process. By the way, keep it away from cables (not easy, it's own cable is quite short) as it is very easy to accidentally spill the water contained (I have done it all 5 times I tried to use this).
Horrible product. Very noisy and need to be filling it up with water everyday. Also if you stop using the cooling feature for a couple of days the it gets a horrible smell once you turn it on again. Waste of money indeed! If you can afford to buy A/C do it, this thing is useless and does not cool and it is definitely very noisy. Such a big things for nothing
This isn’t too bulky and has wheels so it can be moved around. It is quite loud but only a bit louder than a normal fan. Doesn’t cool at all. A very expensive fan that doesn’t even work as well as a standard fan
what a complete waste of money and a waste of time setting up. Absolutely rubbish quality and doesn't work well at all, switches itself off pretty much straight away. absolute rip off quality - fit only for the rubbish tip.
