This story was beautifully written and quite emotional. It shows how the things we take for granted and in turn treat people badly, can come back and bite us. I also liked how the writer stressed on family values. The Sweets stayed together even when their father died and this was a great testament to the love they had for each other as a family. This story touched the themes of love, greed deception, betrayal and arrogance. In the end, I was glad that Silas and Lucy were able to overcome the issues they were faced with and found their happily ever after.
This is yet another beautifully written story that is full of surprises and emotional moments that keeps the reader gripped right to the end.The extended epilogue again finishes the characters story's brilliantly. This is a book that will suit anyone who loves historical romances that have plenty of intrigue and are a bit spicy. I read an ARC copy
An intelligent lady living with her aunt. A viscount trying to be a better man. However he foolishly takes on a bet that leads him into all sorts of bother. He pursues the lady but keeps his secret which becomes his downfall. Twists before the end that keep you reading on.
I enjoyed reading this book and getting to know all the characters. Silas and Lucy's love story had several twist and turns, even when their attraction for each other was so strong from the beginning. The story was paced beautifully to allow each one some needed growth and healing. And they both had a lot of loving support around them. One of my favorite parts was the letter exchange, but don't want to give too much away. A nice read! I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review.
Two stars only because in the end love wins the day and I liked Aunt Joan. Otherwise...this book has ridiculously short chapters...many of which stop mid 'thought' (perhaps not the right word) only to continue in the next similarly short chapter. In the beginning there's some repetition of lines, irritating, but not a book closer. Much of the story had me rolling my eyes due to the near idiocy of a few characters. There are some storyline inconsistencies here and there as well, like a whole estate being secretly built on near by land to where the leading man lives but he knows nothing of it? or the mansion that was supposed to have been underway for the brother but yet he's given the entailed estate? It takes two days to arrive for a house party but magically the leading lady and her Aunt arrive back home in in London the same day they leave said party? Hmmm...and the leading man and a theif somehow knowing exactly where the coordinates on a seemingly vast estate are was a bit odd. No survey equipment or other helpful devices were used? Odd because it leads one to believe that it's written as latitude & longitude type of coordinates. Just in case it's a deal breaker for you there are two steamy scenes at nearly the very end of the book and they're pretty mild on the steam scale...like barely a whistling tea kettle.
Incredible! Lucy sweeps through loaded for bear, blowing me away with this arresting storyline and engaging plot, melding this gem together sleek, shiny and tight. One tumultuous wild ride of fervent events and surprising circumstances, catapults those churning emotions into play front and center. Exhilaration rocks this jewel, bringing it home with such intensity and precision, riding roughshod and imparting one block busting piece of perfection, thrusting this gem to life brilliantly. Navigating the trials and tribulations, noting the thrilling twists and wicked turns, testing our characters in ways they could have never envisioned.. The characters are complex and authentic with depth and traits that blend and flow, transforming into genuine approachable personalities. The scenes are strikingly sharp with abundant details and depictions creating a colorful backdrop that makes the storyline pop. Remarkable job Lucy, thanks for sharing this little treasure with us.
