Zerooooooo stars! Don’t waste your hard earned money. I bought this product and paid over $250.00 last year. It’s not compatible with almost all companies. Tried different sim cards from att & t and did not work. After several attempts, I gave up ....att & t. Verizon does not have this card although Netgear recommend it. I ended up going to T-Mobile and their sim card was the only card that worked. Unfortunately, T-Mobile’s plan GBs are not worth paying plus their signal is not that great. After all that back and forth troubleshooting plus calling Netgear to help, the days and months passed quickly that it was too late to get a refund with Amazon. The Netgear company gave me the runaround and now I’m stuck with an expensive device with no use. Useless and expensive!
Not so hard but more like easy to setup. But for me it defeats the purpose of giving hotspot to security cameras in any place if the goal was to keep it up 24 hours a day non stop every day When charging cable is plugged in it just disconnects everything. Signal gone. i called the Tech service number. One just interviewed me and then says i am going to pass you over to Tech support. i kept on waiting but no one shows up. i dropped the call. Packed it up sent it back. All this after unboxing , testing and calling support, all done with in 45 minutes. I had T- Mobile sim card with 4G LTE with 50 GB data. And with one phone on hotspot from netgear and other on actual wifi listening to same Live news channel on both. The Netgear was very slow . Chopped off audio and video and stopping every few seconds. Lagging behind , jumping to present live frame and everything in between gobbled up. Getting hotspot from any mobile is far better than this. Especially when it can keep giving out hotspot signal even when charging cable inserted in the phone. If this netgear thing would keep working while on a charge i would have kept it. Even with its slow bad data output. it makes no sense why to pay for this when it performs more poorly and with lesser functionalities and with such a high price ! An unlocked phone is your best mate. And they are cheap and far better than these netgear anomalies.
We bought this for a recent trip to Guatemala. AT&T wanted to charge us $10 per day per line, for our 4 lines and 10 day vacation that was $400. Bought this instead and once in Guatemala bough a chip with 40Gb of data for less than $50. This was a life saver, we even were able to connect our toddler's fire tabled and at one point shared internet with family and friends. We kept this running for 12+ hours a day and only turned it off during nights so the phones would not update the software and drain our data (very important thing to keep in mind). I wished the battery would last longer and it seems it was not accurate, sometimes we would have 2 bars and it would turn off shortly, fortunately we carried battery banks and that helped a lot. Would of loved also a USB-C port instead of the outdated micro USB. The screen is very helpful although having only 1 button to scroll made it more time consuming, wish we had more buttons or a touch screen. At the end of the day, this thing was a lifesaver and our teenage daughter wanted to have it all the time, it was well worth what we payed and aside from minor things i would totally recommend this.
I have never used a Wi-Fi hotspot before, this is my first one, and I bought it for work as I sometimes have to be on the road for appointments (insurance agent) and need access to the internet, and I don't want to always depend on having Wi-Fi available. I have an inexpensive prepaid phone service that doesn't offer mobile hotspot, so I could not use my phone. The big test on this was actually when my friend moved and had not had her internet set up yet, but needed internet for some Zoom meetings. I lent her this before I ever even used it for work. It worked perfectly, and I have not had any trouble staying connected with it.
ATT is apparently "upgrading" their network piecemeal so you might be prepared for this device to be rejected by the ATT network in your area. Even with a functional, activated SIM card with a data plan, the network rejected this device for me. The ATT support folks said it was "not unexpected." I am not sure whose expectations they are talking about but that was the end of the story for me.
I could not get this to work on AT&T, probably spent tens of hours on call with both AT&T support and Netgear support. The device registers the Sim card and network, but once I go to web, I get an error message on my browser. Very frustrating, even going into the store I couldn't get it fixed. I'd recommend buying this directly from your carrier to avoid this mess.
I had high hopes for this Net gear mobile hotspot. My main router is Net gear are at my house and it’s the fastest Internet speed I’ve ever had in my life! Xbox games take seconds to download I never experience long long waiting times when it comes to the Internet. Unfortunately I wish I could say the same for the mobile hotspot. After you spend 100+ dollars then you have to go out and buy a chip to put in the damn thing which is another good $50-$100. And after all that it doesn’t even work.... very disappointed with this purchase. BUT If you want a good router for your household definitely suggest the net gear router. Just don’t buy this not worth it.
This is a great, simple, portable Wi-Fi hotspot. It only has one button which takes some time getting used to because we live in a touchscreen world. I plan to use it instead of signing up with an internet provider who only offers expensive data plans and contracts. I will be using this as an intermediary device between my phone and my wireless security systems at home & in my car. This unit will save me about $600 per year. Although, customer service leaves more to be desired.
I bought two. This is the second one. The first one was doing a good job with good signal strength and bandwidth using Verizon 4G LTE sim, so I bought this second one. After two weeks of use, this one started to keep self-rebooting and eventually completely shut down with no way to turn back on. After one day of resting, it can be turned on. But the same symptom is still recurring persistently with or without the charger plugged in.
