I’ve now achieved the total of 4 faulty units. NETGEAR don't even bother in responding. They don’t care at all, I’m very disappointed with this router. it has everything to be amazing, but that’s what it is, as you can see, completely useless and rubbish. It also don’t work as a modem, so even if you have a better option to use , it will still you to use their dreadful device. I’m very disappointed and no more return For me. It will be my 400 quid door stopper. Thanks amazon for the amazing product!
When i powered up the Nighthawk it was in an Arabic language which I then had to spend time on google to find a solution. It does not improve Signal...it is no different to the hotspot signal on my Ipad. Im struggling to see how they can justify the price, very disappointed
This is sadly a very expensive brick. If you want a working wi-fi internet connection on the go for your phone or laptop and nothing else, well... it almost just does the job as long as you do not want any LAN devices to interact with each other. Many other far cheaper devices do the same thing the Nighthawk M2 does well witch is to just connect to the internet. No ethernet printers can communicate properly with Wi-Fi devices. The internet speed is not worth the money since it is well within the range of a 15 pounds device. I know the technology is capable of much more but that doesn't mean you will get it (I did travel around with it to see how it behaves both fiscally and changed between 3 different ISPs). If you think of doing any port forwarding, forget it. It doesn't work. If you want DLNA/UPNP devices to do some network streaming, again, forget it. It is working with so many interruptions that it's not worth the bother of having to constantly reset the router. It is a very nice promise with a very heavy price tag. Sadly it doesn't deliver on that promise. Actually, older generations are probably much better. Netgear doesn't bother to fix the bugs on this one, it actually has created more bugs with its firmware updates. Who knows how many features I haven't tried and how they work. purchased this in Dec 2020, and popped in an EE sim card. (a proper data sim card from 4GEE home broadband contract, not a phone sim card)
in the beginning, it would work after filling APN etc. I set the unit to get ipv4 and ipv6. But after few restarts the unit would stop getting ipv4 address from EE, no matter how APN is set to get ipv4 only or ipv6 or both. in the end, it's only able to get ipv6 address, which is super strange.
I moved the sim card back to the 4GEE router EE provided, everything works normally as it gets ipv4 and ipv6 addresses from EE.
Could it be that EE implements different configuration "profiles" based on different IMEI? I don't know. but Netgear should totally have tested with EE network before advertising it is compatible with EE.
Don't waste your money. The product doesn't work with EE sim cards in the UK, and the Netgear customer service is the worst I have ever experienced. I tried for weeks to get help with connecting it, in the last week alone I have spent over 8 hours on hold, being bounced around and around; they promise to call you back and don't. The product spec says that it works simply with EE, that is not true. The product doesn't work, and the customer service team have no interest in helping at all.
Where do I start... Firstly, this is EXPENSIVE. Not necessarily a problem, but for the cost, I would have expected a solid experience. I have been trying to connect this router to Vodafone UK. I have tried x3 different SIM cards and cannot get a connection. The SIM cards function perfectly in other devices and at the same location. I have tried both phone and data-only SIM cards - and cannot get the unit connected. Vodafone assure me everything should work fine and have confirmed my APN settings are correct. My issue seems to mirror what some other reviewers are saying about not being able to connect to other networks. This is confusing given that the device is advertised to specifically work with Vodafone UK in the Amazon product images.
Have tried the unit at another locations too - still no connection. Vodafone blame Netgear and Netgear blame Vodafone - and I am left in the middle with a very expensive brick. The Orbi app wouldn't even allow me to enter the full text for the Vodafone APN (wap.vodafone.co.uk) - I had to use the web interface.
Netgear have provided the single WORST support experience I have ever had. Unacceptably slow to respond - if they bother to respond at all. I've been disconnected after over an hour on hold, I've had dodgy phone connections with the agent talking to me. I've been bounced around different departments - and have generally been left in the lurch.
Having paid almost £400 for this unit, I would expect really good support. In my experience, customer service has been absolutely ROCK BOTTOM. I've experienced poor support in the past, but this experience is something else.
If you enjoy spending your evenings and weekends on the phone on hold, this router might be the one for you.
It’s very expensive and not that great. I reset the factory settings and then I couldn’t connect to the Vodafone network... ??? It was literally working fine before resetting. Something so simple should not break such a expensive bit of kit. Shop around before you buy this, you can get the same connection speed for much much less. I did try a different router and the SIM card is working fine. I tried talking to Netgear and the Netgear community and they were just not interested. So I’m sending it back.
More importantly, there was no practical support, despite this being an issue reported in several places. The support community tried, but the direct Netgear support was the worst customer experienced I have had. Over 2 hours listening to music, occasionally being answered by a support representative (I spoke with 5), all who asked me the same questions and then told me that they didn't deal with this type of product. Thankfully, it was easy to return via Amazon, and money refunded. Now enjoying Huawei device - not as quick, but it just works.
Unfortunately this does not live up to its hype. In some places it works very well and you can triple your download speed but in the majority of areas in the IK where reception is not amazing the unit is effectively useless and it’s easier to just hotspot from your phone. It’s very expensive and doesn’t deliver enough for me. Even now I’m getting better download speed from my iPhone. I can’t recommend people purchase this.
Ich habe zwei Netgear M2 und einen M1 getestet. Der M1 ist ein gutes Produkt, aber durch den Touchscreen habe ich mir eine vereinfachte Bedienung erhofft. Während der M1 allerdings seine Funktionen alle erfüllt, ist der M2 von Bugs geplagt. Es ist eine Unverschämtheit, ein derartig unreifes Produkt für den Preis (knapp 400 Euro) zu verkaufen. Von der Datenverbindung her waren beide Geräte gleichauf. Allerdings hat der M2 folgende Nachteile: - Kratzempfindliches, im Vergleich zum M1 billig wirkendes Gehäuse. Der Akku wackelt zudem. - Der Touchscreen ist sehr unpräzise und die beiden Tasten an der linken Seite funktionieren willkürlich einfach nicht. - Der M2 braucht doppelt so lange zum booten (1 Min. vs 30 Sek.). - Schriften sind oft zu lang für das Display, hier wurde die Übersetzung schlampig angepasst. - Grafisch wesentlich schlechter aufbereitete Informationen zu Akkuladung und verbrauchten Daten. - Der Slot für SD-Karten wurde eingespart.
Was mich allerdings zur Rücksendung bewegt hat, ist offensichtlich ein bekanntes Problem des M2: Er zeigt ständig an, dass null weitere Tage im Monat verbleiben. Aus diesem Grund habe ich den ersten M2 zurückgeschickt. Doch der zweite hatte dasselbe Problem. Das scheint ein Bug in der Firmware zu sein und wie man im Netgear-Forum sehen kann, interessiert es offenbar niemanden beim Hersteller. Schade.
