To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.
I bought this drive 11-1-20 got it 11-5-20 I also registered it on qnap site 11-5-20. My two year warranty expires 2022-06-08. My math must be off a bit as that's not 2 years.
The interface is a bit more busy than the Synology DSM 6.2, but over all the UI is very usable and can be customized some. The mobile app for managing is cleaner than the Synology mobile DSM. Setting up the first time you should increase the raid build priority, raising this took the initial synchronization down from 120 hours to 20 hours. I have not put data on the drive so I can't comment on speed, but I am not expecting blazing I am running 4 HDD and no SSD.
To soon to say if they are better than Synology, they are better features per dollar for sure.
Update: It finished the raid build in about 20 hours 4x 14tb Segate x16 drives. At first I was highly disappointed I had two sources one with 10Gb connection and the other with 1Gb, neither alone would go above 1gbps and together only pushed 180MBps.
Feeling disappointed I decided to test read to my desktop which has 10gb and nvme the read was avg 420MBps, then tested write from the same desktop and was able to push avg of 315MBps and spiking to 380MBps.
So if you read this all you know I haven't had it long, it built the array pretty quick and with x16 drives writes at 315MBps and reads at 420MBps with a 10m DAC connected to the SFP+
After purchasing this device I have had to have 3 support cases on it.. Two of the three were totally not solvable. QNAP makes you buy their software add ons through their site with the only form of payment being paypal. Well that is broken for many us based citizens. They will not publish that information up front because it would kill their revenue. Their support took a minimum of 5 days and up-to 6 weeks to resolve issues and two they were not able to solve at all.. they contact once a day and never give good explanation. End of my support case on paypal was they wanted me to send a payment to an email address. Then send a screen shot of the payment to a support case to get licenses purchased for their NAS... I expressed this was patently ridiculous they said "I'm not personally that happy about this either, believe me, but this is the answer I received back from the team in charge, so there's nothing more I can do for you if you don't want to proceed with that." So choose Synology or really ANY other NAS.. they have always delivered and stood behind their product.. drop this horrible company and never use them again. (yes they are follow the shell companies), i also unregistered all my qnap devices and I will never buy another one. Great job support!!! QNAP used to be good now it is bad and customer service is useless and slow.
