Incredible story that is well written and draws you in to their world. Characters with strength and emotional depth. I enjoyed Vi coming into her own and the beautiful soul connection between her and Thiago. Their love story is epic Particularly enjoyed the supporting characters who also have their own issues and hold their own in this book. I hope they get their own story too. Wicked intrigue and a war brewing among the fae people and their kingdoms that has plots that keep you engaged from the start. I highly recommend this series. Looking forward to the next read.
I think these stories are going to be Bed McMaster's best work so far. Only complaint was the typos. I strongly suggest McMaster should either change from the current editor because frankly, they apparently suck, or have several ready to check behind who she already has. Other than that pesky subject, this book was AMAZING.
I normally love everything Bec writes but I struggled with this book. Picked it up and put it down several times and it didn't really catch my interest until I was 80% of the way through.
The romance had been established in the previous book so there wasn't any anticipation on that front. The world building felt like a mashup of other YA fantasy authors (mainly Sarah J. Mass and Cassandra Clare) and that really put me off. I wanted to get lost in a new world and this didn't really feel like much of a new world.
The side romance stories, with what appears to be unrequited love, made my heart ache and I will probably continue reading this series in order to see that love resolved. The main couple just hasn't really won me over.
Bec is a romance writing goddess and her other series are much more unique and enjoyable to read. Save your time on this one and read the Court of Dream series or The Legends of the Storm instead.
LOVE the characters! There's a level of depth and realism mixed in with fantasy and magic that really seems to come together beautifully. The author seemed to flesh the characters out even more so with this last installment, taking off from where we left off in the first book. There were defiantly some twists thrown in there that I did not see coming, but was done well. The series gets darker and darker the more you uncover. Great world building! It's killing me to start the wait all over again after having to wait for this one. On the plus side, I'm glad we are getting a small novella to hold us over while we wait for the next installment. I always wanted to see how their relationship started out, from the very beginning. McMaster seems to have hear our wishes and has decided to throw us a bone while we wait. This is by far her best series!
This was not as good as the first one, but the twist was less obvious so it's always fun to be surprised. It just felt like some parts dragged, but I'm still ready to read the next one. Sounds like it's a prequel.
