I pre-ordered this book and got a special price. when it get close to the delivery time, I got notification that the book could come late. But luckily, the book delivered on time. Thanks Amazon, I always enjoy Brandon Stanton's work.
I was so excited to receive this a few days ago, and it hasn't disappointed! I haven't been able to read the whole thing yet. It's a book to dip in and out of rather than read in one go. I know it's going to keep me company throughout the winter. The stories I've read have already whetted my appetite. They provide a great insight into different viewpoints, which is so important right now.
Been following Brandon Stanton via HONY (Humans of New York) since 2012, however this is my first book purchase from his publications, and I absolutely love it. I read a few stories each night before bed and they really help me feel connected and remind me of that collective human experience we share, no matter where in the world we’re from. I look at the photos and read their words first, making sure not to peek at where the photo was taken until I finish! This way I’m always surprised by how familiar each story feels, no matter where in the world they are. That person could be my neighbour, my parent, my friend, my sibling, my co-worker... the stories always resonate. When I read, I am reminded that we are so much more alike than we are different - this is the point of this book and it showcases that beautifully.
Oh, and of course it’s not just the words that are powerful, the portraits are too, but with Brandon, that’s a given.
Buy this book for yourself, or gift it to someone else. You won’t regret it.
Arrived this morning, and already read it (will have to go through it again, and again!)
Its beautifully put together, with small snippets from people about their lives/feelings/jokes/anything; and not just New Yorkers this time, its people from around the world, caught by the author on his travels.
Some will make you laugh, cry, ponder over and make you feel lucky/jealous/happy or everything rolled into one.
My niece recommended the FB page of “humans” and I have been reading the inspirational stories of real every day people for a couple of years now.
I purchased this book for a birthday present for my beautiful niece.
It’s jammed packed full of short real life stories. It’s a perfect book to pick up and read if you only have a few moments. My niece has 3 beautiful children that keep her busy and often has broken sleep so wouldn’t have time or the energy to read a full book, this is perfect for her to pick up as and when she is able to read for a few moments.
This feels like important work, a snapshot of a world that we sometimes recognise and other times opens our eyes and hearts to the new and unfamiliar. Humans is humanity captured beautifully, it will connect you to the people that make up this planet at a time when we all need that so much.
I smiled. I laughed. I cried. I connected. This is an amazing collection of stories from around the world that show despite how different our experiences, we feel very much the same, for we are all human. I have been following Brandon’s work for the past six years and this is my first purchase of the book series, and I am so glad I did. I am in a deep depression, and reading these stories and seeing the beautiful pictures, has helped me so much. This is a must read: no matter who you are, you will find a connection somewhere in this book.
