I am a great fan of Dianna and own most of her albums. This particular album, however, seems to go nowhere; it lacks soul and warmth- the quality of the recording leaves a great deal to be desired! I tried the vinyl version, which I subsequently returned to Amazon, it was horrible to listen to in terms of sonic quality so I don't recommend it.
Dianna's diction is usually impeccable but she disappoints on this album, which is a pity because one gets the feeling that her heart wasn't in it.
The music is beautiful, hence the 5 stars. But it (and we) deserve far better in the presentation, in a flimsy card container which tore along the seam as I got the disk out, and with little information beyond the song titles and a host of credits. If record companies want us to buy physical product (at extra cost) rather than download or stream music, they need to give us a lot more than a cheap and nasty card envelope.
Poor sound , Diana singing in a strangely clipped style , unnecessary smooth orchestral accompaniment and a lack of swing make this cd I eagerly awaited very disappointing. Some nice guitar licks but little else.Diana's management appear intent on adhering to their strategy of ' celebrity ' overriding her natural unmatched pure jazz piano/ vocal talent which once brought her world-wide acclaim . She has found new fans and it seems there is no going back which will disappoint her millions of jazz enthusiasts including me.
The record company ought to be ashamed to issue this flimsy release. It is like one of those free cds you get with the newspapers. Can't comment on the content of the CD as it is a sealed gift. I'm sure however that It will be great. Diana, you need to move to another label which will treat both you and your fans with respect.
Interesting collection of songs, I have this really mellow & relaxing at the current time, really missing live music. We've seen Diana Krall which was a real treat. Particularly like her cover of Don't Smoke in Bed. Not all tracks will be to everyone's taste, but in this house it has gone down well.
Disagree with some of the other reviews which say the album lacks life! For me, it's another good one from a singer I like a lot and of who I have a fair number of her releases. The exception is track 6 which I omit that when playing the disc.
