I have a number of Dr Greger's books but fortunately had a library copy to read and will not be making a purchase. A lot of the recipes have way too many ingredients and for me this makes meal preparation onerous. More to the point, none of the recipes have information on calories, macro / micro nutrient values per serving. I would have also liked why specific ingredients were chosen and how they relate to the information in Greger's "The How Not To Diet" book.
One cookbook that I am enjoying is "Vegan Goodness: One-Pot Wonders". The recipes have a good mix of tastes and textures while keeping a lid on preparation time. Another feature that I really liked was that for many recipes there were alternative ingredient options for those of us who have food allergies or preferences.
Getting back to Dr Greger, I continue to enjoy his Youtube videos and also the "How Not to Die", "How Not to Diet" and "How to Survive a Pandemic" books.
Received my book yesterday and was just browsing through the pages. This book is fantastic, or should I say addictive in a very good way. Before I knew it, my instant pot was out and and I was cooking. I had to stop because I ran out of containers.
The pictures are so inviting that you almost want to try every recipe. The good thing also is that the ingredients are what you already have in your home if you are plant based and don't want your family to go back to eating processed foods. The recipes are very easy to follow. I am a busy mum and don't want to spend too much time cooking all day. Here's what I cooked in 60 minutes.
1. Light Vegetable Broth page 214 2. Umami Sauce Redux page 212 3. Black Lentil Dahl page 137 4. West African Red Bean and Sweet Potato Stew 5. Szechuan Tempeh and Broccoli ( Didn't have Tempeh so I used Tofu) 6. DR. Greger' s Special Spice Blend.
Simple whole foods and healthy recipes! Not only are the recipes extremely nutritious but very tasty. One issue I had with plant-based cookbooks is that they require too many fancy ingredients - but this did not! I’ve been plant-based for 9 months now after reading his first book How Not To Die - I constantly recommend his books to everyone because they’ve changed my relationship with food a lot.
Pre-ordered and waited for about 6 months for the new cookbook. Was so excited when it finally arrived I was close to tears. (The How Not To Die cookbook is a gem, too). Wanna loose weight permanently? Stop making excuses and get cooking :-) Highly recommended, top marks.
I've cooked a couple of the Recipes & looked through the whole book a couple of times. The recipes look beautiful, Hearty, Healthy & easy enough to make! I'm a fan of Dr Greger & enjoy eating whole foods. It's a great book for anyone that wants to eat food that's not only good for your health but that's tasty & filling too!
So many great recipes. One of the only cookbooks where I would cook almost everything in it and not just a few recipes. I’ve enjoyed real whole food so much more since buying this book. Love Dr Gregor! I prefer this one to How Not To Die cookbook but both are great.
