Bought this book because I find Jason to be extremely entertaining and I enjoy his humour on The Modern Rouge and wanted to show my support and found that I really liked enjoyed this novel. I read it I one siting and found myself wishing there was another to dive straight into.
Jason Murphy has delivered a character that you want to read, cheer on and hope for the best, while being the kind of guy that deserves what he gets. More adventures of Clark can only be a good thing, here’s to more.... and hopefully soon
I have followed Jason Murphy for a while with his modern rouge youtube channel, but never knew he wrote.
This is the first book I have ever preordered, and boy am I not disappointed!
I'm still new to horror books, but already this is by far my favourite! A lot of horror books either are not very scary or just go on and on with no time to feel any other emotion, making the gore and horror tiresome (defeating the whole purpose) but Killer Candy had the perfect combo of horror and likable character interactions. Nothing in the books played out as funny, it was the conversations and back and forth of the characters, I haven't read of more likable characters in a very long time.
Clark is sometimes a bit dense, but that is apart of horror, you can't have the main character know everything all at once even when you yourself have.
Also, I love Zeke with an undying passion. Super used the trope of "big scary man is actually pretty smart because people judge too fast on how he holds himself" but Zeke is even better, He is a loyal friend and sometimes has to be the one that takes the lead. He forever lives rent-free in my thoughts.
This was such an easy read, never felt drawn out, always had me at the edge of my seat during the right times.
I am now dying to get my hands on the second book, I think this is forming up to be my new favourite series.
Not my usual genre but I know the author from The Modern Rogue (check them out on youtube) so bought it as a gesture of support. I thoroughly enjoyed it, dark and funny in equal measures and I can not wait for the nect book. Highly recommend.
This is usually not my type of book. But once I started reading it I could not put it down. The story grips you from the beginning and each chapter keeps you on your toe. It is fresh and relatable to our day and age. The writing style is approachable. The book moves at a good peace.
My only critic is that some of the references to the location and atmosphere description are tailored to Americans. I love it when the book is not overly generic and is grounded in a real-world location... But I felt I lost some detail of the scene description because I am a french Canadian reader. Chuckecheese and
Overall I thoroughly enjoyed this book and am looking forward form some more.
I was one of the advanced readers for this book, and I couldn't put it down. In fact I raved about it to my friends and anybody else who would listen. I've read a lot, and the characters in most horror novels annoy me. Not in this case.
In this case the characters feel real. So real you'd swear that you know these people or someone like them. Very well written.
Jason Murphy makes you feel like you're on the investigation, poking around and discovering things best left undiscovered.
Prepare for a wild ride.... well it would actually be hard to prepare for the twists and turns in this story. I have followed the authors exploits on YouTube for years and never been disappointed. This books shows his skill in weaving a great story with complex and growing characters. I enjoyed the ride and will be waiting impatiently for his next book.
You like ghost hunters? You just like to make fun of them? We have a story for you. A little bit of Lovecraft, and a lot of YouTube, throw in a dash of urban fantasy and the history of skepticism and blend. A tasty treat.
