I’ve been using this as my Bible for a little over a week now. I am following it almost precisely. Do I love all the recipes? No. Do I love some of them? Yes. Have they all been easy and doable? Yes. This does take a commitment, but it’s worth it. I’ve also been doing the exercises provided and have been taking 1.5 mile walks on my “rest” days. I have not had this much energy or felt this good in YEARS. I lost 3.8lbs after the first week.
It's important to know, up front, that author Kelli Shallal is a Register Dietitian (among other qualifications). She's written other cookbooks (that I will look for) and her recipes and health advice have appeared in various periodicals.
I am very impressed by this book. It contains everything you need for a healthy, month long weight loss plan. This book really offers a healthy approach to losing weight. It includes exercise routines complete with workout charts so you can keep track of your exercise. For the food portion of the book, each section has a shopping list (wow, I love that!) and recipes.
I am not able to eat all of the suggested foods because I try to follow a plant-based diet (the book includes meat recipes) and I cannot tolerate artificial sweeteners (a few of the recipes use stevia). HOWEVER, I still believe this book deserves 5 stars. There's a lot of good information here that will help you transform your body in just one month's time.
Normally weight loss books are full of recipes most people will never try to make, or full of ingredients most people would rather not eat. This is neither, we've had several of the recipes and they are really good. I'm the only one losing weight, but between my husband having only one kidney and just trying to be healthier, everyone's diets have changed. This is a good book for all of that, nothing too salty, nothing heavy, and it would be a good cookbook for summer when it's super hot and everything feels like it would be too much.
5.0 out of 5 starsA great all in one starting point.

Most weight loss plans consist of a set of rules that somehow eliminate or restrict certain foods, which results in overall calorie reduction. It's in versus out. With this book, the reader still receives a set of rules to follow, but instead of a fad, it's an overall balanced approach to a lifestyle change. Healthy eating and exercise is the only true way to obtain and maintain the best from our bodies. I think this guide is a thorough reference and a good springboard to get started when you're feeling overwhelmed.
I wasn't too sure when I ordered this book but is has been really helpful in workout suggestions and food recipes. I have learned how to balance both parts and will continue to use the book for the exercise tips that it gives. I have implemented some of the food suggestions as well, tweaking them to my liking and it is helping to curb my sugar cravings (my weakness!). Definitely try his book out if you are at point where you are not seeing your weight move.
This author (nutrionist) has a knack for writing, it is actually quite enjoyable reading. Whenever I read her chapters, it feels like I'm in a room with her and she's talking to me. The information is very up-to-date with all of the current thinking for 2020. I just love the first chapter addressing the guilt complex that arises with indulgences.
I have gotten several similar books but, this was the first I could actually stick with. There are a handful of easy to follow exercises that anyone can follow at home. The recipes are pretty tasty and easy to follow. The shopping is made easy with a weekly grocery list. If you are willing to try new things, this book really takes the guessing work out of all of it. I lost 2 pounds my first week following this book and, I couldn't be happier!
Finally! A thoughtfully written AND practical “diet” book. I put diet in quotes because it is so not a typical diet being taught here but rather a (sustainable!!) lifestyle and reformed way of thinking! The author’s style of writing is very easy to read and relate to. The photos are gorgeous and the recipes are unique and creative. Highly recommend!
