To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.
The setup process seems easy, and I got the product connected to my wireless network (I could see it on my router, and the cameras had an IP address) but they would not communicate with the Arlo portal. I contacted Arlo support multiple times and was given the same suggestions every time (have you tried turning it off and on?). Their customer service is very difficult to deal with, and more interested in reading from their scripts rather than getting any useful information from the customer to troubleshoot the problem.
The first item I've ever returned on Amazon but I don't regret doing so.
The hardware is good and it integrates well into an Arlo ecosystem.
The software process is slightly strange. The design seems to be based on the idea that you only want to answer the door remotely. If the doorbell rings, and you don't first pick up your phone and either answer or reject the call, the doorbell will assume you're not home and play a message to the person at the door - even if you've already opened it.
It doesn't have the obvious concept of "home or away" - there's no way to tell it to just act like a dumb doorbell when you're at home and are able to answer the door yourself.
Another obvious feature it lacks, which other doorbells like Ring have, is the ability to start recording video when the button is pushed. Instead, video is only recorded when motion detection triggers (which is useless if you live on a busy street) or when you answer the call through your phone.
Love the hardware and the design but the overall experience is nowhere near as good as Ring.
The doorbell hardware is fantastic, installs easily and works alright.
Except it connects through Wi-Fi only. This product will not sync to an existing Smarthub or base station. This also means that when the "free 3 month subscription" lapses, all the features no longer work. You will receive motion notifications and when someone pushes the bell only. No video will be recorded or stored. The doorbell also has no chime and currently will not work with the Arlo Chime (which needs connecting to a base station or hub).
If this was cheaper, it would make the sting of another subscription service a little milder.
