I have read all the books in this delightful series. Main character the Colonel his quirky neighbour and other villagers all so interesting. I highly recommend this series I don’t go into detail as I don’t want to spoil it for you. Give it a go start from book 1 you won’t be sorry .
A very well written series. The characters are well drawn and most of them are likable. There is a lot of subtle humour and (thank goodness) no bad language. All books are a very easy read. Just a spoiler, the last book has a sad ending. Unfortunately, book 6 is the last one. It would be great if the author could be persuaded to write some more!
I love books set in a small English village and I love a good mystery. This series ticks all the boxes to the extent I read all the books back to back and I am really upset there are currently, no more available. Even though we have lost one of the main characters I hope the Colonel will continue his sleuthing .
If you like traditional murder-mystery novels which are on the cosy side (i.e. very little blood or bad language etc.), I thoroughly recommend every book in this outstanding series.
Set in a quaint English village, with a host of likeable, well-developed, interesting characters, the books are very much in the style of the Golden Age of crime fiction, but obviously updated to reflect a present-day setting. They're easy to read, but quite short and therefore, sadly over all to quickly... I found it very difficult to put any of the books down once I'd picked them up and finished each of them within a day.
Of course, some of the books are better than others, and this is one of the best in my opinion: it kept me guessing until near the end. The books can I suppose be read in any order, but I'd definitely suggest reading them in order (if you can find the other books that is.... for some reason they seem to be hard to get hold of and hence rather expensive).
Return To Frog End..... The Colonel returns in this latest gentle mystery set in the idyllic village of Frog End. Much remains the same in the village although The Manor has now been taken over by Ruth and husband Tom who are providing some village residents with a much needed lifeline by way of gardening jobs in the Manor grounds. When a body is discovered in one of the Manor greenhouses the Colonel is once again drawn into what appears to be a rather violent murder. One in a series of mysteries featuring Frog End and its residents although it can happily be read as a stand-alone. A wholly relaxed, utterly gentle and endearing read - despite the suspicious death! - from a natural storyteller.
I purchased the first of this series on a whim. I just needed something light to read in the evenings to unwind. I was captivated from the first page and promptly purchased all the books in series. Well written, perfectly believable characters and they are not all formulaic. Well done to the author
I liked Hugh, the Colonel, as he enjoyed village life to the full. I liked how the villagers always expect him to solve murders and why Once again he finds a cause and works hard to restore confidence in his abilities. There were new characters introduced in order to create even more twists in his investigation.
The last in this superb and immensely enjoyable series. I must admit to a tear or two at the end as most things must come to an end in more ways than one! This is a series I will miss, and one I can highly recommend .
Another great won't be village mysteries series featuring the Colonel and friends and neighbours. Full of amusing situations as well as the serious nature of the murder. I hope that there are more to come.
