I purchased this book at the same time as the Cook Once Eat All Week book. I wish I’d waited. Cooked two different weeks and the recipes weren’t great. BBQ chicken casserole? It sounded gross, but I made it anyways… and shocking… it was gross. Imagine my disappointment when I open this book and find another BBQ chicken casserole recipe. So lazy. Also, don’t express a difference of opinion on social media, (aka rolling your eyes when she talks about prayer for the people affected by hurricane Ida… my brother is in middle of Ida and prayers do nothing) because it will get you blocked. So between those two things I can’t support this organization and will be returning both books.
Honestly, I’d been looking forward to this release for months. We’ve made every recipe in Cook Once Eat All Week and while delicious, the third meal with the same meat usually got pretty tedious. So I was looking forward to a 2-meal alternative! However, MOST OF THESE RECIPES ONLY MAKE 2-3 SERVINGS. Given that the author is a mom of 3, I didn’t remotely expect this. Not only do we not get leftovers for a third meal, but we literally don’t have enough for everyone to get a full meal each night. And we only have 2 adults and a 7 year old and 4 year old! This is majorly disappointing.
I also agree with others who have noted that there’s no shopping list and some repeat meals from the last book. That would be fine if I could adequately feed a family of 4-5 with the recipes as-written, but I can’t.
I like cook once eat all week and thought this follow up book concept was genius. But the recipes seem to lack the detail and thought I was expecting based on COEAW. I've done two series and felt the recipes needed some final edits to be clear and fool proof for someone who is trying to work in a hurry - and with large batches of (expensive!) Proteins.
*update* ugh again, I'm going to meal 2 in series 1 and I'm so frustrated! Meal 1 instructions said to reserve 2 and 2/3 of the chicken for meal 2. Then meal 2 calls for 4 cups?! I'm changing review to 1 star. This book had SO much potential - now I feel like I can't trust the other series and am feeling like I wasted money on both the book and ingredients!!
