What a fun start to a new series

7What a fun read! If you like the South, small towns, fashion and cats you will want to make sure not to miss this new series. Bonnie Balfour is a down on her luck but not down on spirit! In the middle of a divorce, she heads home to open her second hand high fashion shop, Bless Her Heart. With her new buddy Clyde, a rescue black cat, she is ready to start over until a murderer trys to set her up!! What is a girl to do!

I am now on Book 4 of the Bonnie & Clyde series by Ms Julie Anne Lindsay, and never want the series to end!! Which it will with Book #8. The banter and repartee between the heroine, Bonnie and hero, Sheriff Wright are so quick and perfect, I was impressed that the author could create it.

What I most appreciate with these books is how the author has created flawed, broken and at times troubled
characters who become real. I feel like I know them, and go through the same emotions as they do as the H/h develop a relationship. While there isn’t explicit sex in the books there is comforting touch and kissing and a psychological explanation why it hasn’t gone further in Book 4. Again, it goes to the heroine’s past which makes her real.

The small town is quirky, as are the peripheral characters. You have family, best friends, community, small business owners, humor and love, and a cat! The mysteries are interesting and Bonnie insinuates herself into them much to the consternation of Sheriff Wright.

Book 5 is due out in May 2022 and I already pre-ordered it. This has become my favorite cozy mystery series and I will be sad when it’s over. Enjoy!

Burden of Poof is a fabulous start to a new cozy mystery series from author Julie Anne Lindsey. Head on down to Bliss, Georgia with Bonnie Balfour as she starts over in her hometown with the cutest second-hand boutique: Bless Her Heart; and the cutest little bow-tie-wearing black cat: Clyde. Bonnie finds herself the prime suspect in the murder of grouchy Viola Harrington. Now Bonnie finds herself trying to prove her innocence on top of trying to move on from her divorce.

I have been eagerly anticipating this series since I first heard about and then when I read the free prequel, I was hooked! I preordered the first four books. Bonnie is the perfect cozy sleuth. She's my age (ahem...38) and dealing with so many real-world problems. She felt like someone I would be besties with. I loved that she was so relatable. I was also a fan of her whip-smart comebacks and Southern charm. I saved so many quotes on my Kindle while reading this one. Ms. Lindsey has a knack for snappy one-liners!

With handsome Detective Mason Wright to contend with, Bonnie has her sleuthing work cut out for her. The mystery is deftly written and kept me on my toes. If you are looking for a cozy with heart, I highly recommend Burden of Poof. You won't be disappointed!

Her first independent published Cozy Mystery, Burden of Poof is full of everything you want in a cozy: the amateur sleuth you can’t help but adore, her furry sidekick, small town charm, puns galore, and of course, the handsome detective. Love the small town feels and the chemistry between our two love interests! Their banter is just laugh out loud funny!

Bonnie is going through a rough divorce so she needs the safety and security of home where she fulfills her life long dream of owning and opening a second hand dress shop, Bless Her Heart. But home isn’t so safe when she finds a dead body and soon is in the killer’s sights herself. Have you ever started reading a book and didn't want to put it down? For me, this was Burden of Poof. From the very start to the very end, I could not put it down. I was sucked into the world of Bonnie and her life and her creation of a place to call home. When Clyde came along, you knew it would be a partnership.

I loved the character details from the personalities to the environment and setting. You could hear the voices speak from the pages.

My most favorite part would be the surprise insert of other characters from another series. I laughed out loud and was pulled in that much more.

I don't want to give away any spoilers, yet am awaiting the next book in the series and cannot wait to sit down and nestle in for a good read.....my spouse will have to be on his own for dinner, as I will be immersed in a world that Julie Anne Lindsey creates so beautifully.

If you are looking for an author or a series that will grab you from page one, I highly recommend this book and others from the author.

You simply can’t go wrong picking up a title from Julie Anne Lindsey, or any of her pen names! I loved getting to know Bliss and all of the characters that live there. There’s so much mystery and magic woven into this story, you won’t be sorry you picked up Bonnie & Clyde’s first adventure! Bonnie is a delightful person and a wonderful sleuth, Clyde is full of personality and I adore the pair’s connection and the way he helps Bonnie when she most needs it. The mystery had me suspecting everyone and the crime itself tugged at my heartstrings. I’m very excited to continue reading this series, and especially excited to see how things progress with Mason and Bonnie. I loved their banter, Julie is an expert at chemistry! I also can’t wait to see what mystery Bonnie & Clyde get themselves wrapped up in next!

Her rescue cat, Clyde, in his cute matching bow ties is the perfect sidekick. The charming town of Bliss, Georgia is such a friendly, southern community I would love to live in and be a part of and I can’t wait to get to know all of the townsfolk even more in the next books! The mystery kept me guessing right up until the end. I will definitely tune in to see what happens with her ex and where things lead with Detective Wright. This is a great addition to the cozy mystery genre!

Relatable protagonist

The older I get the more I appreciate a protagonist that isn't in her 20s. Like in this book life happens. You get divorced. You pick yourself back up and move back to your hometown. It's actually a rather common theme these days. I like when I can relate to the book. Except I have yet to find a dead body.
