I have previously read all the books in this series, one at a time as they came out. But I enjoyed reading the whole series straight through even more, and seeing how the characters grow gradually more capable and more confident in their abilities as independent business women and business owners as they learn from their own efforts and from their new friends in the city that they moved to after Vinnies unexpected death. They even gain confidence from making mistakes, because they have learned how to fix their mistakes, and how to plan better, so they can be less likely to make mistakes in the future.
It is wonderful to read about two women who were previously leading very sheltered lives learning how to advocate for themselves. But it also makes clear that it is better to teach young girls the skills that will make them well prepared to be independent adults. Daughters need to learn business skills, and boys need to learn household and child raising skills, even if they choose to live traditional roles as adults. At least they can be more supportive of their spouse, and also be ready to handle what needs to be done in a pinch.
Carlita Garlucci is quite the gal. The changes in her life and the characters she meets make an interesting set of stories. Carlita is a good hearted woman who cares deeply for family and friends. This caring leads her into some dangerous situations that lead to solving mysteries. Following her through her adventures is a fun read.
This box set should have a caution: warning can cause binge reading. A mafia widow and her daughter move from New York to Georgia to start a new life and to honor a deathbed promise to her husband. This box set tells of the adventurous and sometimes dangerous transitions of the widow and her adult daughter.
Friendly fun with a Mob widow relocated to Savanah with treasure, property and not a few corpses and mysteries, stir in some adult children with their own issues, some crazy tenants, neighbors and of course crooks, and you have these fun fast cozies! Plus recipes and romance and Savanah!! Five Stars!
Carlitos is a new mafia widow with sons in the “family” ad her husband’s last words are to get them out and away. With daughters help and her husband’s security deposit box, she is able to slip away and start a new life. A gutsy lady with her daughter’s help is able to start a new life and slowly get her sons out. Still has to work on her eldest son but she maybe able to accomplish in the future. A very interesting story can’t wait for the rest of the series!
I was hesitant to buy 10 books in case I didn't like the story. As my grandsons sometimes say "I didn't like it - I loved it. Carlita's strength, determination, love for her children and ability to solve a mystery make for a great series. I'm anxious to continue her story. Hope has a real gift as a story teller. Her writing keeps your interest without bad language or sex.
Carlita's world is upturned when her husband dies unexpectedly. Never driven a car and her husband handled everything, she makes hard choices and with determination she starts a new life for herself and hopefully her adult children. As time passes each of them experience personal growth while dealing with dead bodies, hidden tunnels, a cache of gems and the Mafia.
