5.0 out of 5 starsEasy set up, Great to pan/tilt to see where your dogs are while you are away from home
Reviewed in Australia on 27 July 2021
I have both this older Tapo (C200(EU)) and the newer model Tapo (TC70)

They both have AU power point plugs.

I will write about both as they are nearly identical in every way that I can see Except that i think the older model camera is slightly better, it seems a little brighter and slightly better clarity.

They are both fantastic to watch my dogs while i go shopping, i can check on them when ever i need to, the peace of mind is priceless so to spend $40-$50 on a camera to have this is amazing. I have one in the bedroom and one in the loungeroom.

Once you get them download the Tap app (I am not a tech person at all and it was pretty easy for me) Place them where you like (they are corded so you need to plug them into a power point) They are wifi which means they will talk to your router (internet) wirelessly, that Does Not mean they are wireless for electricity, you still have to plug them into a power point, no they do not take batteries.

You will need your internet password to link them up to your wifi.

They can both "pan and tilt" while you are away from home by doing this in the Tapo app (which will be on your mobile phone).
I have included pictures, see the Pan/Tilt and the circle with the arrows? that lets you go up and down, side to side. Make sure you play with this setting before you leave the house so you can set it up to pan and tilt to all areas that you would like to check when your not home.

I set it up so i can see as much of the floor space as possible to see my dogs. remembering to think of where they will be laying when your not home, usually the doors and windows as they will be waiting and watching for you most of the time (awwww, broken heart, little angels)..

You can press and hold a button in the tapo app to talk to them, its slightly delayed and echoy but i do not use it as it upsets the dogs more than just leaving them be, if you talk to them they are going to think you are home and get stressed out running all over the house looking for you, you just upset your dogs by doing this.

I have not used night vision away from the house but i have seen it and it while being home and it seems pretty good, amazing how it can see in the dark.

I do not leave them on after i get home and unplug them straight away and put them back in the cupboard.

It is also good to use them even if you take your dogs with you or you don't have dogs as you can keep and eye on the house.

If you want to put a memory card in them (it took me ages to realize how to do this) you need to turn the unit on and use pan/tilt, looking all the way up to the roof and the slot will become visible. You need to format the card, but you can do this after you out the card into the camera.. just pop it in, go to the settings menu and select memory card format. (I added a pic of that screen), I kept trying to format it in my laptop and the camera kept rejecting it, but worked straight away doing it in the camera.

I highly recommend both the newer model Tapo (TC70) and the older Tapo (C200(EU)) as they are nearly identical and work very well.

1.0 out of 5 starsDoesn't track moving object
Reviewed in Australia on 23 October 2021
Need to buy a care subscription if you want the camera to track the objects(child, pet, intruder etc). They give 1 month free subscription and this feature works during this time. After that we need to keep paying if we need this feature.

We bought this to track our child's movement in the living to show his grandparents, instead of we physically changing the camera direction. So without subscription this feature can't be used. So those who are buying for this feature, beware.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not bad for the money

The thing about a product like this is the hardware is fine usually, including this case. It takes good pictures. It's always the software that has to live up to the hype. Pictured this, someone breaks into my house and the camera detects their movement. The software records everything and saves it in the microSD card that is inside the camera. If the burglar just takes the camera with him, I have no record of the event. The manufacturer will point out that you can record on your phone, which is true, but you have to hit a record button. This assumes you're awake, of course. If you're not home, it assumes you respond to the beep on your phone. (I don't check my phone every time it vibrates.) If you do notice the beep and open the software, it takes several seconds to get into the app. It's often slow. I would say it could take 10-15 seconds to open the camera app. It's not one step. There's no shortcut that opens it fast. Then you have to click record when you get the app open. I would have (had I written the app) allowed the app to automatically record to the phone's memory whenever it detects movement. Otherwise, it's not a security camera, it's a toy that might scare off burglars.

Which it might. You can set it up to sound a siren when it detects movement, and that will scare off a certain subset of idiot burglars.

I also haven't been able to attach it to any other software e.g., my computer where I'd be able to record all footage to my hard drive. I read that VLC works with IP cameras, but I haven't been able to get that to work and there are no instructions in the manual on how to do that.

So, there are a few holes that they could fix. That said, if you want cheap, low-level security, it's not a bad option for the price.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great cameras, feature rich, excellent price
Reviewed in Australia on 3 September 2020

Have a pretty big HomeKit setup (10+ devices) but was dismayed at the gouging going on in that space especially with security cameras, so I branched out and got a couple of these little guys. Extremely easy to mount and setup using their app, chucked micro SD cards in them, and now it's leading me onto my next project a NAS to store the streamed data. The alerts work well although shadows dancing across my porch do set the alarm off on the lowest setting. You can draw zones of detection really easily in the app which is a great feature. I took a star off because it'd be nice to have a cloud storage option (even if it costs). Nothing stopping a potential thief from ejecting the micro SD card and then all I'm left with is a notification on my phone letting me know about an intruder.

Great little camera for the price and was surprised to find that it is supported by Synology Surveillance Station for streaming and also pan and tilt control.

With the Surveillance Station handling recording and motion detection as well as 24/7 recording, the cameras have not miss a beat.

Due to the placement of the camera, I was not able to test the night vision function of the camera, but would not be expecting perfect picture quality.

The plastic surface of the camera also made it very easy to be resprayed into different colour to suit the environment and for it to blend in with the surrounds.

5.0 out of 5 stars TP-Link makes functioning Products. All of them!

One thing is for sure, I purchased this item as I had several other products from TP-Link and they all performed to perfection. So does this Camera, which I use for indoor security reasons. The product is very easy to install and it works directly and without technical fuss. I have several of the TP-Link Android Google Home Switches and they are marvellous. Before I used the TP-Link product, I used several other products. The worst was the Security Camera made by Samsung. It costs $298 and was a total failure as the software and the hardware have not been up to standard. Just get the TP-Link camera, you will not be disappointed.

I bought this product during prime days and wasn't sure how good it would be, because at just over $30 I figured it wouldn't be that great.

However it has been fantastic. I can control it with Google home, it's always responding and never offline (like other cheap cameras I've bought). It is delayed a little bit, but so far it's not a problem. I'm considering buying more at full price, but if you can get them discounted they are well worth the purchase.

Good quality camera and easy to set up (though I haven’t tried to put the SD card yet)
The only function I don’t like is you only allow to access to all features from one device. For example, if my partner connect to it, he can share the device with me but I won’t be to access the microphone or tilting functions. Basically whatever he sets and see in his phone will be what I see whole day unless my partner decide to tilt camera into another direction.
Apart from that it’s easy to set up and working as described.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great product exceptional value for money

The C200 camera is excellent. I purchased one to try, somewhat skeptical due to the price point but impressed with the great reviews and was actually blown away by the picture quality and feature rich application software for phones and tablets. These little cameras are brilliant with full pan/tilt, motion detection, AI SD and Cloud recording, preset camera locations, great night vision performance, movement notifications, etc.

My only minor criticism is the ability to quickly access the "Marks" or preset camera locations which can be stored for rapid camera movement to these positions. 10 locations can be preset. This is important and I think one of the most used features once the camera has been setup. Unfortunately there is no access if you are in Landscape view and its part of a sub tab of the Pan/Tilt menu item in Portrait view. That however is a short coming of the App software development - not the camera itself.

The addition of an SD card in each camera allows for local storage of captured video triggered by movement and importantly negates the requirement to sign up for a cloud based subscription service at a relatively significant cost per camera and I also noted that it seems to significantly improve picture acquisition time as you swipe between cameras. I have no bought and installed 2 more of these cameras and all are outdoors undercover. There is no "outdoor" TP-Link Tapo pan/tilt equivalent for this product but for the cost if a camera fails due to weather impact I will simply replace it as the cost is so low.

Great cameras so dont go past these C200 cameras.
